January 1st, First Class Day

Tuesday, January 1st is our first winter session class day in Vancouver East.  Please bring a signed Medical Release Form and Behavior Contract to turn for this session.

Class time is 5:00 - 7:00 and we meet at Lifepoint Church at 305 NE 192nd Avenue in Vancouver.  On our first class day we will begin with a parent and student meeting in the Sanctuary.  This meeting lasts about 1/2 hour and we will cover class information and audition information for this session.

When students are released to their classes, parents are invited to join me at a parent reception in room 201.  We will have snacks, I will share information about the involvement of parents who have children that are cast in a Journey show and we will have time for questions and answers.

Auditions for Vancouver East's winter production of Annie Warbucks are Friday, January 4th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Lifepoint Church.  For more information visit our blog and our show callboard (http://vejourneyanniewarbucks.blogspot.com/).

Winter Class Dates

Winter session classes in Vancouver East will begin Tuesday January 1st and end with our last class and showcase on March 12th.

There will be no class on February 19th which is the Vancouver East show, Annie Warbucks, dress rehearsal week.

So You Think You Can Dance class auditions!

Auditions for the So You Think You Can Dance class being held in Vancouver East winter session, are tomorrow night (12/11) from 6:00 - 7:15 PM.  There is NO prerequisite for this class.  Placement in the class is by audition.  

If you are 12 - 18 years old and are interested in this class, (even if you are not registered yet) please come out to audition!  

The audition location has changed.  Auditions will be held at the Journey Theater office building (US Digital) at 1400 NE 136th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98684.  (The building is on the west side of 136th Avenue, about a block north of the Department of Licensing.)  There will be signs leading you to the auditions in the Training Center.

This class will be taught by Kristi Foster and Robert Head.

Halloween Costumes

Students may wear their Halloween costume to class tonight, however, NO SCARY costumes, or scary images, are permitted and students must be able to participate in all class activities.

If costumes are inappropriate or inhibit class participation, teachers will ask the student to remove their costume.

Tall Tales Ticket Contest Director's Event

Students in Great American Tall Tales who sell 30 or more tickets will be invited to attend the Tall Tales Director's Event!

Date: Saturday, Nov. 17th

Time: 9:00am - 3:00pm

What: Life on the Oregon Trail

Our Director's Event will be a day in the life of a "pioneer in the wilderness" as they set out on the Oregon Trail.  We'll begin with a hearty pancake breakfast, then head over to Fort Vancouver where we'll participate in Oregon Trail reenactments like "hunting buffalo" (director hide & seek), "forging the great river" (team competitions), and "traveling in covered wagons" (obstacle course).  After successfully arriving at the end of the Trail, we'll go to the Williams' house to watch the dvd of the show and warm up with chili and cornbread.  

Additional details will be sent via email to those invited to attend once the ticket contest is complete.

Operation CHRISTMAS CHILD

Operation Christmas Child spreads the joy of Christmas to millions of children in over 100 countries.  Each CYT class can be a part of spreading the love of Christ by putting together a (1 or more!) "shoe box" filled with small gifts for a needy child.

CYT's High School Youth Pursuing Excellence (HYPE) are coordinating efforts in each CYT area and encouraging classes to collect items and fill a shoe box that HYPE will collect and Operation Christmas Child will deliver to a child in need.

Each class will decide if they want to create a box for a girl or boy and the age range of the child.  Students then can bring items for the box such as:

Small cars

Balls

Dolls

Yo-yos

Jump ropes

Toothpaste

Bring A Friend Day Postcard

Dear CYT Families - Tuesday, October 9th is 'BRING A FRIEND DAY' to CYT Classes! This postcard is an invitation your student can give to their friend.  The back is an address/permission slip that must be signed by the guest's parent and brought to class with them.

These postcards will be handed out at class Tuesday 10/2.  Students can bring one guests to class and they must be new to CYT.

CYT's Bring a Friend Day!!

Vancouver East's Bring a Friend Day is Tuesday, October 9th!  Kids can ask a friend, new to CYT, to join them at class and see what CYT is all about.  The student and their guest will receive a coupon for a free snack at break time, the student will get $10 CYT bucks and the guest will get a flyer for discounted show tickets this fall and class tuition in winter!

Students may bring one guest.  Invitations will go out home with students next week.

Area Wide Training CANCELLED

The Area Wide Training that was planned for Saturday 9/29 has been cancelled due to inadequate time for thorough preparation.  Kristi Foster will be meeting with the Artistic Council that same evening for a training time with that group.  An Area Wide Training will be schedule for another date in the future.

Pizza Dinner on Showcase Night

We will be selling pizza for $1.50 a slice at classes on our Showcase night, 6/5.  A flyer will be coming home as a reminder with students tonight.

Class time on Showcase night starts at the usual time, 5:00.  Students will order pizza with their teacher upon arriving at class.  Pizza will be served at our break time at 6:00.  If you do not purchase pizza, please send a snack/dinner with your student.

Showcase will begin at 7:00.  Doors will open for seating at 6:45.  Invite your family and friends, Showcase is free!

Tuesday, April 17th, is Vancouver East's "Bring a Friend to CYT Day"!

Here are the details:

• Give the postcard/invite from class last week to a friend who is new to CYT
• Bring the postcard and your friend to CYT class tomorrow

Wear your favorite show shirt the first day of class and show it off to new families! Nothing explains a show shirt better then to see one! What's your favorite shirt??

To Print Your Medical Release Form

To print out a Medical Release form that virtually just needs a signature, go to your

CYT home page.

If you have already registered for classes click "view registration". There is a column

on the left titled, First Class Day, click on "Medical Release" and then "Behavior Contract".

Print out the Medical Release form. You may also print out the behavior contract

for reference. You and your student must read the behavior contract and sign at the bottom of the Medical Release form indicating your understanding and cooperation.

Print out two Medical Release forms if you plan to audition as one is needed at

the first class day and at auditions!

First Class Day ~ Tuesday

Vancouver East's first class day of spring session 2012 is this Tuesday, 3/27! Class time is 5:00 -7:00. You can still sign up for classes online. We will have registration at the door for open classes on Tuesday. Come early if you want to register at the door!

Remember to bring your completed Medical Release Form! You can print this form from your family page on the website or you can print a copy and fill it out by hand.

All students will start in the sanctuary on Tuesday. After announcements and review of auditions, students will be released with their teacher to finish out the first class night.

After the students leave, parents are invited to join me for "spring break treats" and an overview of parent involvement when a child is cast in a show! It's a great time for information, questions and fellowship over a cup of lemonade with a little umbrella in it!

I'm looking forward to spending the evening with you all!!

Audition Time Change

Audition check in time for Pridelands will be from 4:00 - 6:00 on 3/30. We will go as late as needed to audition everyone checked in by 6:00 PM.

Showcase DVD's Available

DVDs of tonight's showcase performance will be available for purchase tonight ($15). There will be forms in the lobby and DVDs will be mailed to your home.

Showcase Tonight!

Our winter session showcase is tonight, 3/6, 7:00 PM at Lifepoint Church.

Students come at the regular class time of 5:00 PM.

We will sell pizza at the start of class at $1.50 a slice (.50 for water) for those who would like it for dinner. Please pack a dinner/snack if you do not buy pizza.

Doors will open about 6:50 to seat the auditorium.

The showcase is FREE!

We will be going to Menchies Frozen Yogurt after showcase for added fun time together! Menchies will be donating 20% of all sales to our Vancouver East Improv Team. A flyer must be presented when a purchase is made and will be available at showcase tonight.

See's Easter Candy Fund Raiser at Showcase

Come to our winter class showcases next week with spring and Easter on your mind and support Vancouver East's Improv Team at the same time.

Improv students will have order forms at showcase performances next week at both Vancouver class locations and Vancouver East. All items are at the same cost as those sold in See's stores, however they will share about half of the cost of each item purchased with our Improv Team. It is a great chance to get excellent Easter candy and help our Improv Team get to the National Improvathon in San Diego this summer.

Orders placed by Showcase will be filled and ready for pick up at the first class day of spring session at all locations. If you will not be attending classes in spring we will call and arrange delivery. All orders will be filled before Easter.

Letter Writing Campaign Letters Due Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the deadline for receiving completed letters for our Letter Writing Campaign in Vancouver East. Submit your ten letters, complete with a personal note, address and stamp, and you can submit your order for the t-shirt of your choice (off the LWC flyer) or a CYT duffel bag!

For every $75 your letters bring in to CYT by April 15th, your name will also be put into a larger prize drawing. Prizes include:

CYT Class Tuition for a Year ($510 value)
CYT Camp Tuition ($150 value)
5 Tickets and Limo ride to The Sound of Music
at Broadway Rose
6 Tickets to Comedy Sportz and a Moonstruck Chocolate Gift Card

Letter Writing Campaign

Once a year we conduct a CYT-wide fundraiser; The Letter Writing Campaign. We ask each student to send out letters to family members and friends who have a desire to help kids Develop Character One Stage at a Time.

The advantages of the Letter Writing Campaign include:
◦ You do not have to sell anything.
◦ You do not have to collect money.
◦ Donations are sent directly to CYT.
◦ Donations are tax deductible.
◦ Donors will receive a thank you letter and donation receipt.
◦ People enjoy supporting programs for children.

At Vancouver East Classes on January 24th, after CYT class (start dates differ for each area), students will be given 11 letters to take home, complete and bring back to class. Ten are to send, and one is for your family to keep and consider giving. The pre-printed letters tell all about CYT and include photos from our shows and classes. Students write a brief note about what CYT means to them in the space provided, and, after addressing and putting on a stamp, the letter is ready! For every 10 completed letters they bring back to class by February 7th they will receive a participation prize – either a CYT shirt or duffel bag.

In addition, for every $75 your student’s letters bring in, your student’s name will be entered in a drawing to win one of the grand prizes. All donations must be received by April 15, 2012. One grand prize per student. Winners will be posted online at www.cytvanport.org and on our facebook page.

Each class that has at least 70% of their students turn in letters will earn a pizza party!

Vancouver East Classes ON for Tonight

As I communicated in an email this morning, I have been watching the weather and the weather forecast to see if there would be an impact on classes tonight. What I have found is the Evergreen School District has no closures due to weather. The forecast has colder temperatures and the potential of snow late tonight (around midnight) with rain this afternoon and evening. So, the good news is on this side of town, we will have CYT classes tonight.

Some of you in out lying areas have snow and are not as fortunate with good driving conditions. I understand some may miss class due to these conditions. You can email or call if your child cannot make it to class tonight.

Just a reminder, students will enter and be picked up at the doors in the back of the church (east side) each class night for the rest of the session.

Note from the Director of Bye Bye Birdie

Vancouver East is so excited to bring Bye Bye Birdie to the stage. Though this show requires a larger teenage cast, at CYT we look to create performance opportunities for ALL AGES! There are several FULL COMPANY songs that will include both the Adult Chorus and the Kids Chorus ("A Healthy Normal American Boy", "Honestly Sincere", "Hymn For A Sunday Evening", "One Last Kiss"), plus there will be a song that features the Adult and Kids Chorus with possible solo assignments as well ("Kids-reprise").
Sometimes the "amount of stage time" depends on the format of the show and/or the size of cast. Sometimes there is a need to "double cast" (or triple cast) students. Bye Bye Birdie will likely not require double/triple casting because of how the show is formatted. All cast members will have ample time on stage as well as time in the Greenroom.

Thanks for being part of CYT Vancouver East, we had a great first class day yesterday! As a student registered for winter classes you have the option of auditioning for either Vancouver show.

Auditions for Vancouver East's winter production of Bye Bye Birdie are this Friday 1/6, from 3:00 - 6:00 at Cascade Park Baptist Church, 1201 SE 136th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98683.

Auditions for Vancouver's winter production of Narnia are Friday, 1/13, from 3:00 -6:00 at First Church of God, 3300 NE 78th Street, Vancouver, WA, 98665.

If you audition for Bye Bye Birdie and are not placed in the cast, you can audition for Narnia the following Friday. THIS IS A SPECIAL CHANGE TO AUDITIONS AND IS NOT TYPICAL. If you are cast in the show and drop out you are not eligible to audition for Narnia.

Forms needed at either auditions are the: Audition Form, Parent Committee Form, Costume Form and Medical Release Form (even though you also turned one in at your first class day)

Crew forms for Bye Bye Birdie are due by this Friday, 1/6 crew forms are due for Narnia by Friday 1/13.
