Executive Director Search Completed!

Exciting news on the CYT Vanport Executive Director Search
After a two month process of interviewing, testing, debate and much prayer our Board of Directors has reached a decision on the hire of the next Executive Director for CYT Vanport!

It was a unanimous decision to hire Kristi Foster in the Executive Director position.

She will be an excellent fit for the position because of her love for the kids and theater; her passionate pursuit of Christ; her dedication to CYT Vanport for the past eight years and her unique skill set that combines strong artistic ability with an equally strong ability to lead and shepherd people. I'm excited to work alongside Kristi the next two months to help prepare her for this new adventure.
Thank you all for your continued prayer and support.

Medical Release Correction

We will be collecting Medical Release Forms tonight from every student. This will give us updated information on every student. You can print out a completed medical release form from your family homepage on our website.

Late Pick Up Fee Policy

CYT has a policy that parent's must pay a "late fee" when they are not on time to pick up their kids after classes, auditions, callbacks, rehearsals or shows. That fee is $10.00 for every 15 minutes a parent is late. When a parent is late a staff person must stay and wait with the student(s) until a parent arrives. The late payment is paid directly to the person who waits with the student(s) for parent pick up.

Important Information

In the right hand column I have added "pages" with important information. Under Forms you will find the forms you need for your first class day and auditions and under Important Dates you will find all the dates for the spring class session that you will want to make note of on your personal calendar.

First Class Day!

Today is our first class day of spring session in Vancouver East!

Classes start at 5:00 and end at 7:00. Today we will start with a student and parent meeting in the sanctuary before kids are dismissed to class. We will cover important class dates and information as well as auditions for our spring shows.

Today the front doors to the church building will be open for your use. Starting next week, please enter and pick up at the doors on the east side of the building (church office side).

Every student that did not attend classes in Vancouver East last session will need to complete a medical release form tonight. This will ensure we have accurate medical release forms on hand through our audition weekend and spring classes without trying to retrieve a document from another CYT area.

Director's Note

Executive/Artistic Director Update
February 2011

I'm excited to announce that we reached our fundraising goal for our new sound system! The 16 Shure system with all the bells and whistles needed is ready to go out for shows for the next 8 years+. Special thanks to all that gave to the cause, your names are being etched into our Club 20 Memorial plaque for 2010-11.

On the CCT (Christian Community Theater) front, we have our dates set for performance August 6-15 at Washburn Performing Arts Center. We have successfully secured the rights to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Auditions will be held the week of June 6 and are open to ages 8 through adult. Invites your friends, parents, anyone you know that is interested in performing to join us for auditions.

We as a Board are working hard on the process to find the next Executive Director. (Note: For those of you that are newer to CYT, my stay here as Executive has always been set as a term of ten months. The first six months I worked as a full-time volunteer for CYT Vanport and my last four months I will be on paid staff here. At the end of May, my family and I will move back to our permanent home in Chicago to resume leadership for CYT Chicago.) One of my chief goals this school year has been to prepare the CYT Vanport ministry for my eventual replacement. (CYT is at its best when each of us in leadership is seeking out and training our eventual replacement, isn't it? ) Executive candidates are all currently working through a rigorous screening process. Bruce Head has brought in a pro bono hiring consultant to help us gather all the data we need. We covet everyone's prayers as seek to hear God's voice concerning our next Executive Director.

For those of you that have been praying about CYT's finances. I'm pleased to announce that, with the exception of our CYT national fees that accumulated prior to summer 2010, all debts owed have been paid off! Thank you to all that have given your time and resources to make CYT viable again. When you invited a friend to join classes; sold show tickets; donated funds or wrote letters asking for donations; gave in-kind services/items; volunteered your time on a committee, you brought us one step closer to getting back in the black. Winter enrollment is the highest we have ever seen with 500+ students (including 75 in CYT @ school). Praise God!

I'm also excited to share about our Artistic Council. This is a new idea that we are developing to take advantage of the great depth of directing and artist talent we have here in Vanport. Our Council has met only twice but they are already contributing to the artistic/training needs of the program. In the future I see the council becoming a collective Artistic Director to work under our next Executive Director. Our current members are: Anne Dunlop, Starleen Benke, Rhonda Ward, Kristi Foster, Lori Ryan, Jeremy Richardson, Mark Martin, Marla Riley, and Jon Jacquet.

Don't miss our February shows: The Hobbit (Feb 18-27) & Disney's Mulan (Feb 24-27) are brand new productions for CYT Vanport! You won't want to miss our fire-breathing dragon and star-studded cast in The Hobbit! And when you walk through the doors at the Venetian Theater to see Mulan you will not be sorry you made the trip. It's a perfect family outing to see in historic downtown Hillsboro.

Blessings to everyone. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, testimonials or ideas. justin1118@att.net

Executive Director Job Post

CYT Vancouver/Portland is looking for a full time Executive Director. The job posting can be found at this link:

Vancouver East Class Parking

The back parking lot at Lifepoint is now open enough for parents to park as the construction modules are now all gone. This is a great drop off and pick up location. Upon entering kids can go straight to the gym to spend time with their friends before classes begin!

We will be manning the front door tonight as well as families transition to using the lot in the back.

Also, the bathrooms we are authorized to used, and that makes our clean up at the end of classes much easier, are the bathrooms in the kids wing (hallway closest to the back door) and across from the gym.

After classes, kids will be supervised at the back door as you drive in to pick them up. Our Gang parents must park and come to the Our Gang class room for pick up.

We Need Your Help...

Dear CYT supporters,

We have an excellent opportunity to secure all of our wireless microphone needs for the season but we need your help. Thanks to the generosity of 11 committed CYT supporters, we have 11 committed mics pledged so far, we just need another 7 pledges of $1000 or $85 per month to reach our goal and our Feb 1 ordering deadline. We currently have only one complete system to meet the needs of 13 shows annually. CYT is in desperate need of a 2nd updated system to meet the needs of our expanding program into Beaverton and to meet the needs of more challenging technical shows like The Hobbit and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well as our spring shows and summer CCT production, Joseph! Originally we needed 20 pledges but we have been able to whittle the pricing down so that only $7,000 more is needed.

Now is a great time to give to the ministry of CYT. I encourage you to ask friends, family and also check into your companies matching funds policies, you may be able to donate $500 and have them match the other $500.
Please email me at justin1118@att.net or call 815-814-4349 by Feb 1 to secure your name on our Mic Campaign Office Plaque and make a huge difference in our ministry and the quality of our sound systems.
Blessings,
Justin Parks

Weather

Classes may be cancelled in the case of dangerous driving weather. The weather forecast and actual conditions will be watched carefully. If classes are cancelled, there will be a post on this blog a few hours before classes begin. Be sure and check the blog before leaving for classes.

Building Entry for Classes

At our parent meeting I announced that entry for classes on Tuesday will be from the doors on the south side of the building. I did not take note of the changes in the parking lot since the construction of Costco next door!

Vancouver East Auditions for The Hobbit

The Hobbit
AUDITIONS
Cascade Park Baptist Church
1201 SE 136th Street,
Vancouver
Monday, January 3rd
3:00-6:00pm

To audition, students must be between 8 and 18 years old and currently enrolled in a Vancouver or Vancouver East class.

What Do I Bring To Auditions?
• A completed and signed Audition Form
• A completed and signed Costume Form
• A completed and signed Parent Committee Form
• An instrumental only, cued accompaniment track (like Karaoke) for your one minute song.
(We will not be providing an accompanist. If you plan to use sheet music you must also bring your own accompanist.)
* A current photo

If you do not have a photograph, bring $2 and we will take one for you at auditions.

Registration for your audition is simple. To secure a spot for your audition, simply arrive at the audition location between the times designated for the particular show you’d like to audition for. For example, if your auditions are held between 3:00 and 6:00 pm and you sign in between those times, you are guaranteed an audition slot. If, however, you arrive at 6:01 pm, you will not be allowed to audition.

Upon submitting all the appropriate materials (see What Do I Bring To Auditions?) at audition registration, auditioners are assigned a number. Auditions then take place in groups of 10. For example, numbers 1-10 sit in their designated spots in the audition room. After this group is seated, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the room while the group of ten is performing their individual auditions. This helps to keep unnecessary distractions to a minimum during the auditions. After the group of ten completes their individual auditions, the doors will open up and audience members will be able to come and go as they wish. Then the next group of auditioners are called to be seated and the process repeats. This continues until all who have registered to audition have performed.

In order to make the audition process as fun and supportive as possible, parents and friends are invited to watch auditions to support those auditioning. You may choose to watch as many groups of auditions that day as you would like. This can be a great learning experience. Even those who aren’t auditioning are encouraged to watch.

CALLBACKS

Please be on time for the time you are called. Callbacks are closed (no one can attend but the student called) and will be at Cascade Park Baptist Church.

*Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, no flip-flops or sandals, as dance auditions are part of callbacks.
*Bring a snack or dinner if you are called for the entire time.

If you are not called back it does not mean you are not cast in the show!

The final cast list for The Hobbit will be posted on this blog at 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 6th.
